Wedgwood Majolica Game Pie Tureen – 1868 – England

Large oval-form 12″ game pie dish centered with dead partridges amongst flowers and foliage in rich, deep colors on a brown ground. The head of a fox forms each handle. Impressed uppercase “WEDGWOOD” mark, registration lozenge and three-letter date code”XMY” with “Y” signifying manufacture in 1868.

During the 1860s Wedgwood expanded its range of majolica to include multicolored ornamental wares such as this. The extremely high quality of the ceramic body and the popularity of Wedgwood’s designs made majolica production at the factory extremely successful throughout the remainder of the nineteenth century.

Measures 12 1/2: length, 4 7/8″ in height and 8 3/4 in depth.
