Peculiar and interesting pair of Italian bedside tables in walnut burl; for each nightstand, the top shelf is rectangular with only one very rounded corner on it placed a black glass; the whole lower structure follows the lines of this design; the functional space below is divided by a large compartment closed by a door and an external space with a small and practical visible shelf; the bedside tables do not have feet but a base made of black lacquered wood planks, this solution increases solidity and stability; the doors are each fitted with a simple and elegant bakelite knob, a very fashionable material at the time; the compartment closed by the very large door is made of wax-polished walnut, and both bedside tables have a practical shelf placed in the center of the space. Skilled master cabinet-makers executed these nightstands in the Art Deco style perfectly and meticulously in an artisan workshop in Lissone (Monza-Brianza-Italy) between 1935 and 1940. The Lissone area has always been famous for the production of high-quality carpentry. The walnut burl realization, with the characteristic chromatic colors of this wood, gives our nightstands a unique and exclusive elegance and refinement. The craftsmen were inspired by the desire to devise two objects of limited size with decisive and simple lines and gave the nightstands a timeless elegance; their design plays between austerity and rigorousness, and their exaggerated linearity gives the objects a dynamic and stately character. European walnut (Juglans Regia) is by far one of the most valuable and fascinating woods, making it particularly popular in the luxury furniture sector; walnut burl looks like a set of twisted wood fibers that give the wood its characteristic hardness and compactness; burl also has a unique aesthetic value, since, thanks to the many ever-changing natural grains, it is very elegant and refined. The nightstands have been hand-treated with ancient restoration techniques by our team of craftsmen and are in excellent condition. Measurements width cm.50, depth cm.33, height cm.60.
