A rare miniature town plan of Barcelona, engraved by Valegio after the Braun and Hogenberg plate of 1572, published in ‘Raccolta di le piu illustri et famose Città di tutto il Mondo’.
Of the 322 plans in this series, 112 are signed by Valegio (such as this one), six were reissues of plates engraved by Martin Rota in 1572, and the rest were anonymous.
This plate is more commonly seen in the later 1713 ‘Universus terrarum orbis’ by Raphael Savonarola (also known as Alphonso Lasor a Varea). KING: Miniature Maps, pp.76-7.
