A splendid Playing Box made in Italy, as can be seen from the chips that reproduce the Lire, the official Italian currency before the introduction of the Euro. Its glamorous style makes this box undoubtedly datable to the 70s, made of soft red leather, embellished with a rectangular brass plate and padded inside with a kind of boucle in the typical green of the poker table felt. Divided inside into various compartments, this Mid 20th Century Playing Box houses inside: -Two decks of poker or bridge cards (one of which has never been opened) produced by ASS Altenburger, is the oldest known playing card producer in Europe and belongs to the Cartamundi Group. -Five poker dice -Five game dice -48 pieces of One Hundred Lire cardboard chips -53 pieces of FIFTY Lira cardboard chips -31 cardboard fisches worth five hundred thousand lire – 24 cardboard chips of one thousand lire – 18 cardboard fisches of Five thousand Lire – 10 cardboard chips of Ten Thousand Lire – 6 cardboard chips of Fifty thousand Lire – 4 cardboard chips of one hundred thousand lire There were originally several pieces of chips, but although the cards have never been used and the remaining chips are in like new condition, some must have been lost. The box shows minimal signs of use and age but in good vintage condition.
