Mid-Century French Cow Vide-Poche by Albert Thiry, 1960s

Mid-century French ceramic whimsical cow vide-poche / dish (circa 1960s) by Albert Thiry. A chalk-white glaze provides the backdrop for a colourful flower motif in the centre recess of the dish. The markings and colouring are quintessential Albert Thiry. It is unsigned yet clearly attributable to Thiry’s pottery. It is in good overall condition. This gallery finds that Thiry’s works are more and more in demand in overdue recognition of his artistic creativity. Upon request a video of this piece will be provided. About the Artist : Albert Thiry (1932-2009) was born in Nice, France. His family moved to Vallauris where he spent most of the school holidays in the potteries; in 1956 he was taken on as an assistant decorator with an opportunity to make his own pieces. Albert and his wife, Pyot, set up their own pottery in 1961. Their standard production, in Vallauris clay with added grog to emphasise rusticity, resulted in delightful pieces both highly elaborate and utilitarian.
