Tea set, Kutani porcelain, ff. 19th century – Japan
Splendid Japanese tea or coffee set consisting of a teapot, milk jug and sugar bowl, and eight cup and plate stands in Kutani porcelain, made at the end of the 19th century.
Kutani porcelain is a type of enameled Japanese porcelain that takes its name from the town of the same name. The first pieces date from the mid-17th century, although its production extends to the present day. It became extraordinarily famous and popular, especially in the West, following an exhibition that took place in 1873, and from then on its production was dedicated to export. It is characterized by using a large number of colors, which seek to reflect the beauty of nature, mostly flowers and birds, on a large part of its surface.
In addition to the exquisite flowers and birds, the work on the handles of each piece is very original, which imitates the shape of the bamboo cane, in addition to the gold details.
